More than 80% of students at the California State University (CSU) receive some type of financial aid. That means chances are good that you’re eligible for financial aid, too!

How to Apply for Financial Aid

  1. Submit your Cal State Apply application for admission 
  2. Use this Financial Aid Checklist
  3. File Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) OR a California Dream Act Application between October 1 and March 2* 

* The priority application deadline for 2025-2026 was extended to April 2, 2025. If you missed the priority application date, you may still be eligible for aid so submit your application as soon as possible! 

After Applying for Financial Aid

  1. Make sure your application was submitted successfully
    Once you submit your FAFSA or CADAA, check your email for a confirmation letter and summary.
  2. Check your email for important updates
    Review your inbox (and spam folder) frequently for updates such as requests for additional documents or notifications from colleges about important next steps. 
  3. Accept your financial aid award from your CSU Campus
    CSU campuses begin awarding financial aid packages in March/April of each year. If you have questions regarding your aid, please contact a CSU Office of Financial Aid.
